I am sure a couple of you have seen this one before, but for those who haven't let me explain. After a brief stay at Shaolin Temple and a relatively painless bus journey from there to Louyang (one of the ancient capitals of China and a really nice place) I found myself unexplainably drawn to the window of my hotel at about 6 in the morning. For some reason I had instinctively grabbed my camera and was rewarded with the opportunity of getting a picture of this everyday circus act passing by. Not sure of the legalities of this move in England and judging by the stare of the worldly wise old Chinese lady also in the picture, I am not sure of the legality of it in China either.
When SARS was at its peak and (according to some of the lest trustworthy papers in the UK) was about to wipe out half of the worlds population, the Chinese decided that public education on the basics of hygiene would help prevent the spread. These posters appeared all over China, advising people that "Docotrs advice for the health of yourself and others, don’t sneeze AT others"
"Chi-nglish" (Chinese English) at its hilarious best!
Another along the same lines advised that "…for the health of yourself and others, don’t spit EVERYWHERE"
Chinglish in overtime again, this time helped along by an informative picture for all those who were confused as to what spitting is. Nice.
